New! Speed Channel TV Schedule
|
Speed Channel Championship The Speed Channel Touring Car Championship came to Lime Rock Park in Connecticut over the Memorial Day weekend, bringing some of the closest, most exciting racing in the US. Driving the South San Francisco Auto Parts BMW is Marc Kirberg of Corte Madera, CA. For those of you following the Dantzig Racing pages, the name Kirberg will be familiar. Kirberg was one of the owners of Marin Motorsports in the Bay Area, which was a Dantzig Design client. Kirberg was also Jol Dantzig's instructor on many of the California tracks.
A formidable presence in any series, Kirberg qualified the white and blue SSF BMW third on Friday. Unfortunately, the rear wing was found to be 1/8" too high in scruitineering, and Kirberg was sent to the back of the grid in a "last chance" sprint race in order to get a chance for the main event. Kirberg worked his way through traffic for twenty laps, and finished second, less than a half car length out of first. This put him twenty seventh on the grid for Monday's feature race. During the main event race Kirberg demonstrated his ability to cut through traffic, passing at least one car per lap. As the race wound to completion, Kirberg found himself in fifth overall, just behind teamate Ken Dobson. Once again, a very exciting weekend at LRP, punctuated by a reunion of old friends from California, including third place finisher Taz Harvey, and our friend from Marin Motorsports, Scott Lee. Scott has been driving for SSF, and recently competed in the second team car in a 12 hour enduro at Thunderhill. |
